With Marcus Cox breaking the all-time App State rushing mark en route to 153 yards and three touchdowns, App State systematically took apart the UL-Monroe Warhawks in a 42-17 win on Saturday afternoon.
The game, played in blustery conditions, saw the Mountaineers rebound from last week’s last-second loss at Troy to keep themselves near the top of the Sun Belt with an 8-3 overall record, 6-1 in league play. UL-Monroe was officially knocked out from primary bowl contention as they fell to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the Sun Belt.
The story came after the game was decided when Cox, needing just a few yards to break the school rushing record, ran 25 yards for his third and final touchdown of the game.
Cox was part of an offensive attack that racked up 429 yards on the ground. Jalin Moore added 135 yards while quarterback Taylor Lamb got 92 and a touchdown. Lamb added 208 yards in the air on 14 of 22 passing for two more scores.
The 637 total yards was the largest amount this season by the Mountaineers.
ULM fared better versus App State than many, scoring two touchdowns on the day. Austin Vaughn went for 110 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Quarterback Caleb Evans went 13 of 32 passing for 136 yards and an interception, plus this touchdown run.
Eric Boggs was the defensive standout, getting nine tackles, four solo, a sack and a tackle for loss.
App State finishes up their season next week at New Mexico State looking to finish strong while UL-Monroe could play spoiler to UL-Lafayette’s bowl chances in two weeks at home on Saturday, December 3rd.
