What do you need to know about this year’s edition of “Who The Hell Wants To Claim That Stupid ‘U'”? Well, it was peaked for the “Weakest of the Weak” here at Forgotten5.com.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. I have no idea what’s happened to Georgia Southern football. I really don’t. I had opinions on it, though. After making it to a bowl game last year, Georgia State has regressed to their mean in the Sun Belt with a 2-8 overall record, 1-5 in the Sun Belt. They did play Wisconsin very close at the beginning of the year. Of course, Georgia Southern played Ole Miss close, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Eagles currently are not good.
This game could play out in a number of ways, and I honestly don’t have the first clue which will be the actual result. Georgia State hasn’t been great at stopping the run this year, but Georgia Southern hasn’t been very good at running the ball. They’re somehow still the leading rushing offense in the Sun Belt. Which… how? HOW?!? Georgia State has the best pass defense in the Sun Belt, but Georgia Southern hasn’t exactly thrown the ball much. At least not until lately. Whether the Eagles throw the ball in this contest will depend on who the quarterback is.

Georgia Southern has a middling rushing defense and a middling passing defense. Tackling has been questionable. Georgia State has a horrible rushing offense and a middle-of-the-pack passing offense.
On paper and by records, Georgia Southern should win this game. ESPN’s FPI only gives the Eagles a 60% chance and the spread is -3. That’s because Georgia Southern has been awful over the last few games.
Here’s my thought: if one of Georgia Southern’s running QBs capable of running the option is healthy and starts (and stays in the game), then Georgia Southern will win. If not… all bets are off.
Have at it, y’all. It’s depressing that this is a game I might not even watch very closely. Look what you’ve brought me to, Tyson Summers & Company.
