A player that drove opposing defenses in Conference USA crazy for multiple years, Florida International tight end Jonnu Smith is headed to Nashville as a member of the Tennessee Titans.
Smith is an outstanding pass catcher that struggled from playing for a poor team during his career. He is the type of player that can hit a seam route and go 80 yards to the house and make both safeties and linebackers look silly. At 6-3, 248 pounds, Smith is an incredible athlete that will make some plays in the Tennessee offense.
For a guy as athletic as Smith, his is a very good blocker that does it willingly. He is not afraid to go to the edge and take on a 260 pound OLB or crash down on a 290 pound defensive end.
It is somewhat funny that the NFL Network has Delanie Walker as his NFL comparison. He is basically Walker in a younger form and could end up being the tight end of choice in Tennessee for eight years after apprenticing under Walker.
Smith needs a little work with his route running and concentration, but he does not have to go in and be the guy. He has time to learn the position at the NFL level. In addition, Smith should feel right at home with former FIU star Johnathan Cyprien joining the squad as a free agent in the offseason.
Congrats to Jonnu Smith on getting selected #100 overall to the Tennessee Titans in the 2017 NFL Draft.
