Army Black Knights Overview
Army is coming off a huge win last Friday over Fordham, where the Black Knights dominated in all facets of the game. Fordham never stood a chance, the Army defense held star running back Chase Edmonds to only 42 yards.
The Black Knights defense was close to unstoppable, the Rams offense was never able to get going. Army surprised me with just how good the defense was, I expected Edmonds to give them a lot of problems, as he is one of the best backs in the country FCS or not.
The offense looked unstoppable they gained over 500 yards and didn’t complete a single pass(0-2). QB’s Ahmad Bradshaw, Kelvin Hopkins, and Luke Langdon all looked comfortable running the triple option and made the right reads nearly every time. Darnell Woolfolk also looked impressive running for 95 yards and one touchdown. Army has depth at the slotback and fullback positions and when the option runs smoothly no matter who is on the field it is beautiful to watch.
Special teams is what threw away the game against Buffalo last year and from the looks of things, the kicking game won’t cost them this year. Army had four kickers attempt an extra point and three of the four hit one(David Cooper had his only attempt blocked) going 7/8 in the game.
Buffalo Bulls Overview
Buffalo’s first quarter against Minnesota was impressive. After that, they were just kind of there on the field, they weren’t awful but they weren’t good either.
They lost 17-7 and had a really impressive performance from Khalil Hodges, who had 20 tackles. QB Tyree Jackson had a good game on paper, but if you dive deeper you’ll find that almost all of his 211 passing yards came in the first half.
The second half was just Buffalo going three and out over and over again.
Buffalo gave Army problems last year, they have the capability to do it again, but if they will is another question.
Last year around this time, one year on Monday the 11th to be exact, the West Point family lost a friend, teammate, classmate, and most importantly, we lost a brother when CB Brandon Jackson tragically died in a car accident.
Jackson was one of the most talented players I’ve ever seen suit up in an Army football uniform, but it was way more than that. He had a smile that could make even the saddest of people smile back. He always said, “Scared money don’t make no money”. The Black Knights used that as their rally cry last season and they were screaming it coming onto the field after halftime against Navy.
There is going to be a special energy in Michie Stadium on Saturday and the Black Knights are going to feed off of it and get the win for their brother.
