Loyola Chicago Ramblers

The clock hasn’t struck midnight for Cinderella just yet. The Ramblers (and Sister Jean) have taken the country… I’m sorry Sister Jean, the world, by storm.

I of course reference Sister Jean when she was asked what she thought about taking the country by storm: “Really, if I can correct you, international.”

A buzzer-beater from Donte Ingram lifted the Ramblers over the Hurricanes of Miami in round one.

Clayton Custer got a bounce from the basketball gods with 3.6 seconds left and Loyola Chicago moved on to the Sweet-16.

Marques Townes hit a clutch three to put the Ramblers up four late in the game to move on to the Elite-8.

This team isn’t a fluke, they can actually ball; anyone on the court at any given time can shoot. Clayton Custer, the teams leading scorer who has been clutch time and time again, whether that’s hitting a key shot or taking pictures for fans who want a picture with Ben Richardson:

Richardson: “She goes, ‘here mister, can you take the picture?’ She handed the phone to him (Custer).”

Custer: “And she goes, ‘Are you on the team?’ And I was like, ‘Come on, man.’ “

Now the Ramblers magical run has reached the Final Four, where no 11 seed has ever won (LSU in 1986, George Mason in 2006, VCU in 2011).

This team is fun and fun to watch; they have captivated the nation and everyone (besides Michigan fans) wants to see more of the Ramblers.

Michigan Wolverines

Michigan is the hottest team in the country, winning 14 of their last 15 games and 13 straight. The Wolverines are led by junior Mo Wagner and senior Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, Wagner has been the team’s best player all season, while Abdur-Rahkman has emerged as a leader during the tournament.

Wagner is going to be a key in the matchup, if he is hitting his shots, unlike the Elite 8 (3-11, 0-7 from three), it will be extremely difficult for Loyola Chicago to win this game.

Michigan is like the Ramblers in that everyone on the court can shoot the ball. They spread people out and lunch it. They also have a ton of size which will make rebounding tough for Loyola Chicago.

I want this Cinderella story to have another chapter or even another page, but I think the clock will strike midnight for “America’s Team” aka Loyola Chicago. Michigan is just too big for the Ramblers and can match their shooting capabilities.

Somehow this team is still the second best story of the tournament, even with them making the Final Four(thanks UMBC), but we will never forget the Ramblers and Sister Jean.
