Army football had their best season since 1996 last season; going 10-3, beating Air Force and Navy to win the Commender-in-Chief’s Trophy. In the past two years, Army has gone 18-5; there is no doubt that Black Knights football is on the up and up and head coach Jeff Monken will look to have his team win back-to-back CiC’s and in the Top-25 this coming season.
Let’s take a look at the schedule:
- Week 1: at Duke(7-6 ACC)
- Week 2: Liberty(6-5 Big South**)
- Week 3: Hawaii(3-9 Mountain West)
- Week 4: at Oklahoma(12-2 Big XII)
- Week 5: at Buffalo(6-6 MAC)
- Week 6: BYE
- Week 7: at San Jose State(2-11 Mountain West)
- Week 8: Miami(OH)(5-7 MAC)
- Week 9: at Eastern Michigan(5-7 MAC)
- Week 10: Air Force(5-7 Mountain West)
- Week 11: Lafayette(3-8 Patriot League)
- Week 12: Colgate(7-4 Patriot League)
- Week 13: BYE
- Week 14: BYE
- Week 15 Navy(7-6 American)
It will be interesting to see how who gets the starting QB spot and how the O-Line regroups after losing NFL prospect Brett Toth, Bryce Holland, Josh Boylan, and Mike Houghton.
The Black Knights of the Hudson have two very important stretches during their 2018 campaign; the first one comes in weeks 4-9. Four of those five games come on the road, one of which comes against a team who can give Army problems on the road; Buffalo beat the Black Knights 23-20 in overtime in 2016.
Army goes to Oklahoma; who knows, they might be able to pull off the upset, but fans should be ok if the Black Knights go 4-1 or maybe even 3-2 during this five-game stretch.
The other one is weeks 10-12, Army has to go 3-0 in these games, beating Air Force is vital and not getting upset by FCS teams is just as important(5-3 against FCS opponents since 2012).
Army could make it out of 2018 with one loss, and with some magic and an upset in Norman, go undefeated.
More realistically I expect the Black Knights to be in the 9-3, 10-2 range.
This season is going to be a fun one, stay tuned for a full preview closer to the start of the season.
