Army Black Knights
Army is coming off a heartbreaking loss in Norman against then #5 Oklahoma. The Black Knights offense held the ball for 44:41, giving Oklahoma for just over 15 minutes. Army’s best defense is the offense keeping the ball for 3/4’s of the game.
The goal-line stand that the Black Knights defense should be a huge momentum builder for a defense who hasn’t been great yet. They’ve had moments of greatness but have yet to play a complete game yet.
The key for the Army defense in this game is slow down the high powered Buffalo offense. The Bulls have an absolute stud at QB in Tyree Jackson who has already thrown for 1,052 yards, 15 touchdowns. Slowing him down will be Army’s best shot at winning this ball game. The Bulls offensive line is the only group that has yet to give up a sack this season, expect LB James “Hammersticks” Nachtigal to change that stat.
Offensively, the Black Knights need to get around Bulls DE Chuck Harris. Harris has 21 tackles and five sacks through four games. He is the main piece in this Buffalo defense; if the fullbacks can take him out of the game, the Army defense will be just fine.
Buffalo has only won over six games five times in the last 60 years(two happened in D-III). This Buffalo team is going to win a lot of games and definitely win more than six games. They are coming off a thrashing of B1G opponent, Rutgers(do we really consider them a D-1 team though?).
Tyree Jackson is a stud and he has a pretty good set of wide receivers around him. Anthony Johnson, K.J. Osburn, and Charlie Jones are all really good wideouts, Johnson being the best. These guys all have over 100 yards receiving and at least three touchdowns on the year.
Defensively they have another stud in DE Chuck Harris; like I said earlier, 21 tackles and five sacks is pretty good. Buffalo has a thing for good defensive ends just look at Khalil Mack.
The Bulls defense will be on the field for 40+ minutes, they will be more than prepared.
This game is going to be a lot of fun, this is the biggest game non-CIC game for Army and one of the biggest for Buffalo, I expect a low scoring game with a lot of drama. I think Army hits a field goal late and revenges their demons of missing multiple winning kicks the last time they were in Buffalo.
