Kelly Bryant Should Transfer To UCF, Here Is Why.

Life after McKenzie Milton is something that UCF is going to have to deal with pretty soon, and if he keeps putting up stats like he put up against FAU; life without Milton could be as soon as this offseason.
That is where Kelly Bryant comes in. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney announced Monday morning that freshman Trevor Lawrence would be the new starting quarterback for the Clemson Tigers. This move was both surprising and not surprising at all. Bryant led the Tigers to the College Football Playoff, but the 2018 offense was more efficient with Lawrence in at QB. On Tuesday morning Bryant missed practiced for undisclosed reasons and Wednesday morning the news broke that Kelly Bryant would be transferring from Clemson.
Bryant was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and once he got to Clemson he had to sit behind Deshaun Watson. Once he got the starting job last season the Clemson offense picked up right where Watson left off. Bryant threw for 2,802 yards and 13 touchdowns. His interceptions(eight) were a little high, but he was never the best passer. Bryant also ran for 665 yards and added another 11 touchdowns.
You see the title and probably think “Here goes Alex again with a crazy hot take that will never happen” and to that I say, yea you’re probably right, but hear me out.
UCF is more than likely going to need a new quarterback and Heupel’s scheme fits Bryant’s skill set. It’s fast-paced and utilizes it’s players speed all over the field. Having a running QB just adds another element to the already extremely dangerous UCF offense. Seeing what this offense can do with Milton running the ball makes me excited to think about what a faster guy like Bryant could bring.
Is Kelly Bryant as good of a passer as Milton? No. I don’t think there are that many quarterbacks that are. But Bryant is a good enough passer that he could succeed in the Heupel offense; after all, he led a team to the College Football Playoff. His interception rate is a little high but I expect that to drop no matter where he goes.
UCF’s current backup QB who would most likely take over the starting job if Milton were to leave is redshirt freshman Darriel Mack Jr. He has only appeared in two games but in the UConn game, he sprinted down the field for a 70-yard touchdown run. Mack looks to be a pretty good player, but I’d still take someone who led a team to the CFP over him. I think Kelly Bryant could keep UCF at the level they are at now with Milton.
If UCF can get Kelly Bryant to come down to Orlando to take a visit, I think they could land him. If he comes, watch out because the UCF offense will be deadly even without Milton at the helm.
