Home win streak reaches 12 as Army tops Lafayette, 31-13

Army got their 6th win in a row since losing in overtime to Oklahoma, ranked #5 at the time. Their home win streak extended to 12, dating back to last season.
The Black Knights got off to a really slow start in the first quarter, due to some simple mistakes that are very uncharacteristic of the team. But we’ll take the win.
The first quarter was the slowest of the game. Army had a turnover and a few false start penalties that forced them to settle for a field goal, and then Lafayette tied it up late in the first.
After that, Army was on a roll.
Kelvin Hopkins went though the air to Glen Coates to get downfield.

Army’s passing game has become uncharacteristically good of any Black Knight team.
After that, Darnell Woolfolk punched it in for Army’s first touchdown of the day, and for their second lead of the game. That was Woolfolk’s 33rd career touchdown.
With roughly 2 minutes left in the second, the score still 10-3, Kelvin Hopkins hit Calen Holt at the 15, and Holt was then brought down inside the 10.
One play later, Hopkins pitched the ball to Holt who walked into the endzone untouched for a 6 yard score.

The Leopards hit another field goal and Army went into the locker room with an 11 point lead.

At the start of the 3rd quarter, Army forced Lafayette to punt, and that was probably the play of the game.
As the Leopards’ punter went to kick the ball, he kicked it right into Andy Davidson’s face! That’s what we like to call heads-up football.

Reynolds recovered the ball and tripped up at the 1, but Darnell said “gimme it” and punched in his second of the day, once again from the 1 yard line.
Army lead, 24-6.
Black Knights defense comes up with another stop, and the offense hit the field again.
Jordan Asberry broke off a long run that got Army at the Lafayette 17 yard line.
Not too long after that, Woolfolk pushed Hopkins in for another Army touchdown from the 1.
As time ran out in the 3rd, Edriece Patterson got his first career sack!
Lafayette would score again in the 4th to finish off the game’s scoring.
Overall, Army played an OK game. Jeff Monken best have these issues solved by next week because Colgate is looking scarier and scarier each week.
