Cincinnati Recruiting Update

As we await the coming days of National Signing Day, and close the days of the Early Signing Period, we are in a time of anticipation. Some commitments have been made in the coming days, but nothing for the Bearcats since the December signings. (For anyone wondering #CinCityPride19 is the “name” for the 2019 class).

Early Signing Period Recap

The Bearcats had 13 players sign, and they had consistency of all being 3 star prospects. Two other commits await their signing, 3 star Marcelo Mendiola and 2 star Savion Herring. Both have been committed since June of 2018. UC signed two quarterbacks in the 2019 class, Cameron Jones and Michael Lindaur. Both are three stars and pro style QBs, but the obvious difference is in their stature. Jones stands at 6-7 and weighs over 250 pounds, while Lindaur is 6-3 and 205 pounds. It also should be noted that Cincinnati has not gotten a commitment from a running back… YET.

National Signing Day Preview

The top target for Fickell and his 2019 class is John Bivens, a running back from Archbishop Alter in Dayton. The thought is Bivens is down to Nebraska, Cincy, Louisville, or Kentucky. All of those other teams have a RB commit, except Louisville, who has the most on their roster (and is severely imploding on itself). Bivens is a must get for UC, as they’re in search of a running back STILL for 2019. Another high priority prospect is Johnathan Allen, offensive tackle from Dayton. With two other tackles committed yet unsigned, Allen is needed to give a sense of confirmation that Fickell won’t come out empty handed of offensive linemen.

Overview

This is Fickell’s worst recruiting class, however he has consistently brought in three star guys, and is getting a lot done in-state. If Fickell can continue to get solid three stars and keep in-state guys away from other Group of 5 Ohio schools, then Cincy will continue on this upward trend. The 2018 class consisted of 25 guys, and the 2019 class only has 15 so far. Be on watch for some guys to come in soon as we near February.
