Former Army tackle Brett Toth has received a waiver from the U.S. Army and is now officially a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Toth played in 31 games at West Point and was the first Black Knight to play in the Senior Bowl.
His feats of success at USMA have now lead to a 3 year deal with the Eagles.
He and Austin Cutting are the only 2 former service academy players to sign with an NFL team after President Trump’s announcement on service academy athletes playing in the pros.
There’s no question that Toth has the size to compete in the league, he stands at 6’6″ and weighs 291 pounds. He has 33 3/8″ arms and his hands are 10 1/4″. He’s a BIG dude.
But according to the Eagles wire, Toth “graded out as an NFL backup or Special Teams contributor.” He may need a year before he sees the professional gridiron as the Eagles see him as a “practice squad project”.
Nonetheless, it’s great to see another former Black Knight in the pros. This is a step in the right direction, and should be a sign that we’ll see more of the same in the future.
