Future Opponent Preview: Week 1

Football is finally back! We are going to keep you posted on all of Army’s future opponents with a preview and recap each week. The future opponent preview will drop every Monday and the Army game preview will drop every Friday, with the exception of the first one on Thursday.

Michigan:

Michigan vs. Middle Tennessee

  • Start Time: 7:30 PM ET
  • Location: Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, Michigan
  • TV: Big Ten Network
  • Line: Michigan -34
  • FPI: Michigan 98.2
  • O/U: 53.5
  • Series: No previous matchups

Michigan looks to kick off the season on the right foot against a Blue Raider team that won eight games last year. Michigan should win this one going away, but I like Middle Tennessee against the spread.

Prediction

Michigan 42-Middle Tennessee 14

UTSA:

UTSA vs. Incarnate Word

  • Start Time: 6:30 PM ET
  • Location: Alamo Dome, San Antonio, Texas
  • TV: ESPN3
  • Line: N/A
  • FPI: 90.7
  • O/U: N/A
  • Series: No previous matchups

This one should be fun, not because it’ll be close but because it’s a San Antonio FBS/FCS rivalry. UTSA should win this one fairly easily, that being said Incarnate Word isn’t a pushover; they went 6-5 last season while going 6-2 in the Southland conference.

Prediction

UTSA 35-Incarnate Word 17

Morgan State

Morgan State at Bowling Green State

  • Start Time: 7:00 PM ET
  • Location: Doyt Perry Stadium, Bowling Green, Ohio
  • TV: ESPN3
  • Line: N/A
  • FPI: BGSU 96.2%
  • O/U: N/A
  • Series: BGSU leads series 1-0

BGSU has a stud at QB in Jarret Doege and he should be able to put on a show against Morgan State’s defense. Neither team is going to be great this season but this should be an easy win for the Falcons.

Prediction

Morgan State 7-BGSU 38

Tulane

Tulane vs. FIU

  • Start Time: 8:00 PM ET
  • Location: Yulman Stadium, New Orleans, Louisiana
  • TV: ESPN3
  • Line: Tulane -2
  • FPI: Tulane 50.5%
  • O/U: 57.5
  • Series: FIU leads 1-0

Finally a non-blowout. The Green Wave are going to be a fun team to watch this season with Justin McMillan at QB and Darius Bradwell at RB. This game will be fun to watch as well, FIU should be a good team this year coming off a historic 9-4 season. If I had to pick any of the future opponent’s games to watch, it’d be this one.

Prediction

Tulane 28-FIU 24

Western Kentucky

Western Kentucky vs. Central Arkansas

  • Start Time: 7:30 PM ET
  • Location: L.T. Smith Stadium, Bowling Green, Kentucky
  • TV: ESPN+
  • Line: N/A
  • FPI: WKU 89.7%
  • O/U: N/A
  • Series: Central Arkansas leads 1-0

FCS over FBS upset? It’s possible here. The Bears are no slouch despite their FCS label. I have WKU winning a close one on and standout WR Lucky Jackson having a big game.

Prediction

Western Kentucky 35-Central Arkansas 28

Georgia State

Georgia State at Tennessee

  • Start Time: 3:30 PM ET
  • Location: Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, Tennessee
  • TV: ESPNU
  • Line: Tennessee -26
  • FPI: Tennessee 97%
  • O/U: 57.5
  • Series: Tennessee leads 1-0

This one could get ugly, Georgia State is in a rebuilding process. Tennessee will run away with this one.

Prediction

Georgia State 7-Tennessee 52

San Jose State

San Jose State vs. Northern Colorado

  • Start Time: 10:00 PM ET
  • Location: CEFCU Stadium, San Jose, California
  • TV: none
  • Line: N/A
  • FPI: SJSU 93.5%
  • O/U: N/A
  • Series: No previous matchups

SJSU is in the middle of a rebuild and will kick off their season against an FCS team that won two games last season. This should be a good way to kick off the year for the Spartans and they’ll look good doing it with these throwback helmets.

Prediction

San Jose State 28-Northern Colorado 7

Air Force

Air Force vs. Colgate

  • Start Time: 3:30 PM ET
  • Location: Falcon Stadium, USAFA, Colorado
  • TV: ESPN3
  • Line: N/A
  • FPI: Air Force 90.4
  • O/U: N/A
  • Series: Air Force leads series 1-0

No, Air Force won’t lose this game but Colgate could keep it close. Colgate has the benefit of a “Week 0” game against Villanova so they won’t be rusty. The Raiders will be prepared for the Falcons triple option as they played against Army in their last game before the FCS playoffs where they upset James Madison.
Air Force lost Cole Fagan (997 yards last season), Joseph Saucier (6.4 YPC), and as of August 22nd lost two receivers Brandon Lewis and David Cormier all due to drop in cadet status. Air Force’s offense will be interesting to watch.

Prediction

Air Force 28-Colgate 14

UMass

UMass at Rutgers

  • Start Time: 7:15 PM ET
  • Location: SHI Stadium, Piscataway, New Jersey
  • TV: Big Ten Network
  • Line: N/A
  • FPI: Rutgers 85.2%
  • O/U: N/A
  • Series: Tied 2-2

UMass and Rutgers… this game is… bad… football? Maybe? Kind of?

Prediction

UMass 14-Rutgers 32

VMI

VMI at Marshall

  • Start Time: 6:30 PM ET
  • Location: Joan C. Edwards Stadium, Huntington, West Virginia
  • TV: Stadium
  • Line: N/A
  • FPI: Marshall 99.4%
  • O/U: N/A
  • Series: Marshall leads series 14-5

All I’m going to say is pray for VMI.

Prediction

VMI 0-Marshall 52

Hawaii

Bye Week

Navy

  • Start Time: 3:30 PM ET
  • Location: Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis, Maryland
  • TV: CBSSN
  • Line: N/A
  • FPI: Navy 89.5%
  • O/U: N/A
  • Series: No previous matchups

Navy is rolling with Perry at QB again, which is not great for them interesting to say the least. I don’t know if part two of this experiment will work but they should beat Holy Cross regardless.

Prediction

Navy 28-Holy Cross 7

Opponents Predicted Record:

8-4
