Future Opponent Preview: Week 2

This is arguably Army’s most important game this year outside of their CIC opponents. At the Big House, the Black Knights look to take down one of the nation’s top teams, The Michigan Wolverines. The Army preview will come out on Friday but let’s take a look at their future opponents.

UTSA vs. Baylor

  • Start Time: 4 PM EST
  • Location: McLane Stadium, Waco, Texas
  • TV: FSN
  • Line: Baylor -26.5
  • FPI: Baylor 94.7%
  • O/U: 56.5
  • Series: Tied, 1-1

Baylor looks to ride the hype train over the Roadrunners, who just came off a win vs FCS Incarnate Word. The Bears put up 518 yards on SFA, and Charlie Brewer accounting for nearly 200 of them. This may be the second straight week that Baylor puts up 50+ points. Granted, their defense did give up 17 to SFA, but they face a not-as-great offense this week.

Morgan State

Tulane vs. Auburn

  • Start Time: 7:30 EST
  • Location: Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, AL
  • TV: ESPN2
  • Line: Auburn -18
  • FPI: Auburn 92.4%
  • O/U: 52
  • Series: Tulane leads 17-14-6

Both of these teams are coming off massive wins. Tulane dominated FIU, a team that many think are going to shock a few people this year, and Auburn upset the number 11 team in the country, Oregon. Now, Auburn walks into a trap game vs a team lead by stud Justin McMillan. McMillan went 14-18, had 199 yards, and 2 TDs. A better stat line than true freshman Bo Nix, of Auburn, who went 13-16, 177 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. This game could be pretty close, at least at the half, but I expect Auburn to start pulling away.

Western Kentucky

Western Kentucky vs. FIU

  • Start Time: 7:00 EST
  • Location: Riccardo Silva Stadium, Miami, FL
  • TV: ESPN+
  • Line: FIU -7.5
  • FPI: FIU 71.3
  • O/U: 60
  • Series: Tied 6-6

WKU was the only FBS team to lose to an FCS team last week. They need a big win and FIU could be that. FIU came out slow against Tulane last week, losing 42-14. The Panthers are the better team so a win for the Hilltoppers is unlikely.

Western Kentucky 17-FIU 42

Georgia State

Georgia State vs. Furman

  • Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
  • Location: Georgia State Stadium, Atlanta, GA
  • TV: ESPN3
  • Line: Georgia State -7.5
  • FPI: Georgia State 85.4%
  • O/U: 61.5
  • Series: No previous meeting

Georgia State shocked the world last week with their upset win over Tennessee. This game is a trap game, there’s no way around it. Sure it’s an FCS opponent but coming off a big emotional victory could have the Panthers coasting into this game. All that being said, I think they take care of business and move to 2-0.

Georgia State 35-Furman 10

San Jose State

San Jose State vs. Tulsa

  • Start Time: 9:30 PM EST
  • Location: CEFCU Stadium, San Jose, CA
  • TV: ESPN3
  • Line: Tulsa -6
  • FPI: Tulsa 54.8%
  • O/U: 50
  • Series: Tulsa leads 4-3

SJSU beat Northern Colorado and Tulsa ran for a whopping -73 (yes, you read that right, negative seventy-three) yards in a loss to Michigan State last week. Tulsa will be looking to bounce back this week and I think they get it done.

UMass vs. Southern Illinois

  • Start Time: 3:30 PM EST
  • Location: Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium
  • TV: None
  • Line: UMass -3.5
  • FPI: UMass 66%
  • O/U: 80.5
  • Series: SIU leads 1-0

UMass gave up 42 unanswered points last week to Rutgers and SIU lost to South Eastern Missouri. Neither team has a great defense so expect a high scoring game.

UMass 49-SIU 35

VMI vs. Mars Hill

  • Start Time: 1:30 PM EST
  • Location: Alumni Memorial Field, Lexington, VA
  • TV: ESPN
  • Line: N/A
  • FPI: N/A
  • O/U: N/A
  • Series: No previous matchups

This is the FCS version of an FBS team playing and FCS team. Mars Hill is a D2 school that VMI should be able to beat easily.

VMI 45-Mars Hill 14

Hawaii vs. Oregon State

  • Start Time: 11:59 PM EST
  • Location: Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, HI
  • TV: Facebook
  • Line: Hawaii -6.5
  • FPI: Hawaii 73.2%
  • O/U: 78
  • Series: Oregon State leads 7-3

Knowing Hawaii, by the end of the third quarter they’ll have a 42-21 lead and then they’ll win 49-42.
