The Panthers opened the season by shocking the world by upsetting Tennessee at Neyland Stadium. Since then they have lost twice, getting blown out by Western Michigan and dropping a three overtime thriller against Texas State.
Led by QB Dan Ellington, the Georgia State offense averages 478.5 yards per game. Ellington has a beautiful 13:3 touchdown to interception ratio.
On top of throwing for 1,350 yards, he has 441 yards on the ground. He isn’t afraid to take off and run on a defense that isn’t spying him.
Their problems have come from their defense this year, they are giving up 452.8 yards and 37.5 points per game. If the Panthers want to win, their defense will have to wake up and get the ball back to Ellington.
It’s soul searching time for Army. What do they want this season to be? There is still a lot to play for, a bowl game, a third straight Commander-in-Chief Trophy, and a third straight 10+ win season.
Something has to be said about the play calling. The coaching staff seems to want to force the fullback dive even if it isn’t working. They need to trust their slotbacks and get the ball outside more often to open the middle up.
The last two weeks the both sides of the ball have been sub-par, the defense seems like they forgot how to tackle and the offense has been extremely slow.
This game needs to be a fundamentally sound game for the Black Knights. This game is a must-win, they cannot drop a third straight game.
They need to go outside with the ball more this week, the Panthers have had trouble stopping the run game all year, this can’t be the week they figure out how to stop it.
Army will finally get back on the right track this week. It won’t be easy and they won’t blow Georgia State out either.
Dan Ellington is going to have a few big plays, but I think Army’s secondary will do a good enough job slowing down the passing attack to win the game for the Black Knights.
