If you think Army has been bad this year… boy let me tell you something.
If it wasn’t for Akron (who hasn’t scored a touchdown since September 28th btw) the Minutemen would be the worst team in the country.
UMass gave G5 fans everywhere so much hope after jumping out to a 21-7 lead against Big 10 Rutgers before they let the Scarlet Knights rattle off 42 unanswered points.
They followed that performance by getting blown out by an FCS team, the Southern Illinois Fighting Trevor Lawrence’s (if you don’t know what I’m talking about google SIU’s logo and try to tell me that’s not Trevor Lawrence).
They opened the season 0-4 and were outscored 207-86. They got their first and only win against Akron (they are the last team to give up a touchdown to the Zips), since that game, they have been outscored 232-77.
It’s been rough for the Minutemen and this game won’t be any better for them.
Last week was a painful loss to Air Force, but they gave Army fans some hope for the rest of the year and the future.
Jabari Laws continuing to grow is the main source of that hope. He became the first Army QB to throw for 200+ yards since Carson Williams had 328 in 2007 against Tulsa.
Sandon McCoy has also looked good, he continues to run extremely hard. He’s a bowling ball and hard to bring down.
The defense looked a lot better with Jaylon McClinton back in the secondary.
These next two weeks are Army’s get back games. I think they’ll be able to jump out to big leads early and we’ll see a lot of the young guys who will be the future of Army football.
With a bowl game being a longshot, it makes sense for Jeff Monken to let the young guys get experience now since they won’t have bowl practices.
Two words: Army big.
